ALMA @ Burnaby Mountain

ABOUT THE PROJECT

ALMA @ Burnaby Mountain is a vibrant new community envisioned at the heart of the emerging Burquitlam Transit-Oriented Area (TOA). Strategically planned at the base of Burnaby mountain, just 300 metres from Burquitlam Station and only a 15-minute bike ride or 5-minute drive from Simon Fraser University, the project is uniquely positioned to meet the growing demand for diverse, high-quality housing in Burnaby. By expanding rental options and introducing the first Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) in Burnaby, ALMA @ Burnaby Mountain is designed to relieve pressure on the traditional rental housing market while strengthening the fabric of the wider community.

More than a place to live, ALMA @ Burnaby Mountain is envisioned as a cornerstone of future community life and a catalyst for connection. Thoughtfully planned around the power of social spaces, the community is intended to foster everyday interaction, wellbeing, and inclusivity. Proposed amenities will go far beyond the typical, with facilities including a wellness club for fitness and recreation, co-working spaces for collaboration, study lounges and meeting rooms designed with students in mind, and gathering areas to host programs and events that build community. Together, these spaces are designed to create intuitive, effortless living where daily essentials and opportunities for connection are always close at hand.

The development is planned in two phases and will feature four highly articulated mid-rise buildings with taller elements ranging from 6 to 16 storeys. Together, they are set to deliver approximately 1,500 units and more than 2,000 beds:

  1. Phase 1:  Approximately 1,000 purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) units, the first of its kind in Burnaby.
  2. Phase 2: Approximately 500 purpose-built rental (PBR) units.

Complementing the housing will be approximately 70,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenity space and 30,000 square feet of commercial space, creating a carefully envisioned environment that integrates student housing, rental living, community spaces, and neighbourhood-serving retail.

At its core, ALMA @ Burnaby Mountain embraces the belief that both students and the wider community thrive when wellbeing, design excellence, and social connection are prioritized.
